I think its always important to be a person in other people’s lives that makes them feel seen. Be the person that stands up for them when there’s no one else to. Be the voice that they might not have the strength to speak.
This was something that I felt pretty impacted by on my recent trip to Jamaica and I came home thinking a lot of how I wanted to change how I treated people. I want everyone to feel like they are seen and heard.
I know I can’t be that person but if I can just start even with the people on my team who aren’t as involved or included as some of the other girls, but to make an effort to make them seen and heard and if no by the rest of the team, they’ll at least be heard by me. I want those people on this campus who don’t really have anyone to talk to, to have someone. Someone to give them another perspective or to let them know that they aren’t alone.
There was one person on my trip who just effortlessly was always there. Always there to make you laugh or make you feel included and I just loved being around this person and observing all of the things he did to make everyone feel like a somebody, that they belonged on this trip and that they were apart of the conversation.
Thinking about it now, how could you tie this message into marketing or advertisements…
Giving people an option to be heard is something that is likely to appeal to a big crowd. It lets people relate and be a part of the cause, instead of telling people what they are doing wrong, tell people how to help and how to get involved. This would be a good perspective to give to a company who works to help the homeless. Giving an emotional and unexpected commercial with a call to action to help use their voices for those who are unable to have a voice on the streets, starving and cold.
